Red Split Lentils Organic 500g
A vegetarian favourite, this nourishing wholefood provides high levels of protein and dietary fibre, while being naturally low in fat and sugar. Lentils readily absorb the flavours of the ingredients they are cooked with, making them super versatile. They’re great in endless dishes, including hearty meals and soups.
HOW TO
As Red Split Lentils cook much more quickly than whole lentils, it is not necessary to pre-soak them before cooking. However, some people may choose to do so for 30-60 minutes to reduce any remaining Saponin, a naturally occurring coating on seeds and pulses.
Rinse. Add 1 cup of lentils to 4 cups boiling water. Cover and simmer for 20-25 minutes, until tender.
Do not add salt to water, as this can cause the ‘skin’ to become tough.
- Great in salads and burgers.
- Cook to a lush creamy consistency perfect for traditional Indian recipes.
- Uncooked red lentils can be well rinsed and then added directly to curries and hotpots, simmering for 20 minutes or until soft.
- Cooked lentils can be added whole to salads and wraps.
- Make irresistible vegan lentil burgers with besan flour, spices and fresh herbs.
- Puree to thicken savoury dishes.
