Kavalactones are the chemicals produced from the kava root that affect the brain and central nervous system. It helps to relax the mind and body, helps induce sleep, and is now used by people for help in coping with stress, poor mood, irritability and insomnia.
Kavalactones have been shown to reduce convulsions and contain pain-relieving properties, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center. Kava has been used to treat attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder or ADHD, migraine headaches, anxiety, muscle pain, chronic fatigue syndrome, urinary tract infections and certain respiratory tract infections.
